Anne DeSantis explores how living faith authentically begins with everyday interactions rooted in kindness, affability, and charity toward others.

Faith becomes real not only in prayer or at Mass, but in the countless ways we interact with others each day. Our tone of voice, our patience, our willingness to listen, and even our facial expressions communicate what we truly believe. For Christians, faith is not meant to remain abstract or private; it is meant to be lived and witnessed in ordinary encounters: with family members, coworkers, neighbors, and strangers alike. When our daily interactions reflect kindness, respect, and sincerity, faith moves from words to action and becomes visible in the world around us.

Faith Lived Daily

The way we treat people in everyday moments is one of the clearest expressions of our faith. Simple gestures such as listening without interrupting, responding calmly under stress, or offering encouragement can reveal a heart shaped by Christ. These daily choices are where faith becomes tangible and credible. When our actions align with what we profess, others can see faith lived authentically, not as an ideal, but as a way of life.

The Virtue of Affability

One essential virtue that helps make faith real is affability—the practice of being approachable, open, and genuinely kind. Affability does not require perfection or constant cheerfulness, but it does call us to treat others with dignity and goodwill. A warm greeting, a gentle response, or a willingness to give someone the benefit of the doubt can make a profound difference. By choosing openness over defensiveness and kindness over harshness, we reflect the love at the heart of our faith.

Choosing Charity Over Gossip

Just as kindness builds faith, behaviors such as belittling, gossip, and uncharitable speech quietly undermine it. These habits go against what we believe about love, mercy, and respect for every person. Gossip may feel harmless or justified, but it damages relationships and weakens Christian witness. Making faith real often begins with resisting the urge to discuss others negatively. Choosing silence, changing the subject, or speaking with charity are simple yet powerful ways to live our faith daily and allow it to shape how we engage with the world.
