Maria Riley and her family had a blast incorporating the Catholic faith into card games with Cathletics Playing Cards.
I love playing games: board games, dice games, and especially card games. Playing cards are versatile and can be used for something as simple as Go Fish with a toddler or hours playing Euchre (a Midwestern game similar to Spades with four people playing in teams of two). I keep a deck of cards in my car and another deck permanently in my suitcase because you never know when or where you’ll have the opportunity to come together and play.
Benefits of playing games
Games are great unifiers and bring people together for fun and community. Without a doubt, playing games is my favorite thing to do with my kids in our free time. Games limit screen time, teach how to lose and win graciously, and spark laughter together.
I absolutely love the Cathletics Playing Cards by Arma Dei because they gave us the chance to bring our faith into game night. The deck is formatted like a typical deck of cards with the traditional four suits and ace through king. However, each card features facts about the Catholic faith.
Attention to detail
The real beauty is in the details. Each fact on the card corresponds to the number on the card. For example, the three of hearts is the Holy Family (three people), and the three of clubs is the persons of God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). I love these cards specifically because the heart is attributed to the family and the club, or clover, is attributed to the Trinity, which is reminiscent of Saint Patrick’s teaching of the Trinity being like the three leaves of a clover.
You will find the ten commandments on a ten and the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit on a seven. The face cards are the biggies: Saint Joseph, Mary, Jesus, and the Trinity. Each card is unique and educational, and clearly a lot of thought and prayer went into each card.
Faith and fun
My family and I loved playing with these cards because we could play the games we already knew. We’re able to use the cards to play Crazy Eights, Rummy, and Old Maid. As my kids used and read the cards, we had the chance to talk about some of the many facets of the Catholic faith. The cards also feel great in the hand and shuffle and deal well. They’re neither slippery nor stiff, and my kids had no issues holding and playing with them.
If you’re looking for a perfect Christmas gift or simply want to incorporate our beautiful Catholic faith into game night with your family, Cathletics Playing Cards are exactly what you need!
