Michelle Nott reviews a sticker book from Catholic Family Crate that would make a great Christmas gift.
Pray By Sticker: Mass
Published by Catholic Family Crate
It’s that time of year again where I am beginning my Christmas shopping and trying to come up with meaningful gifts for my family. A few Christmases ago, one of my kids received the Catholic Family Crate Pray by Sticker: Catholic Kids book and it was a big hit. So, when the opportunity came to review their Pray by Sticker: Mass edition, I jumped at the opportunity!

About Pray By Sticker: Mass
This book is designed for kids ages 5 and up. It comes with 10 different images the kids can create, and all images are of things that can be found at mass including things like the priest, altar server, and tabernacle. I am also impressed that it contains items that kids may not be as familiar with, such as the ambo, thurible, and lectionary. It is also a good review for parents who (admittedly like me) may recognize the item but not remember the proper name for it.
Why I Like This Book
All the Pray By Sticker books provide my kids with a way to get creative and do a craft, while also learning about their faith. The stickers are all small, which is great for engaging their fine motor skills to peel off the sticker and place it on the correct spot on the page.
I do like that these pages are designed to rip out (some of my kids do need help with this part), so that they can tear out the sticker page and the matching image and then pass it on to a sibling, so there is not a required wait time for each kid.
It is also a great way for them to practice patience, since it will take time to peel and correctly match each sticker to the right number. The beauty of it is that it is an activity that they can stop and come back to later.
This edition is nice for my second grader, because she is learning parts of the Mass as part of her preparation for first Communion. Each image is an item or person that can be found in the Mass, and there is a description on the back of the page so that the kids can learn about each image listed.
A Few Things to Make Note Of:
There are only two things I would make sure parents are aware of before buying this book. While the age range is for ages 5 and up, the younger kids who are still learning to read will need some help reading the descriptions of the item and talking about what each one is.
The other thing is to remind your child to firmly press the sticker down onto their image, otherwise they can come off and get lost. We have had some upset kids because of this issue with previous versions that we got. Also, because the stickers are so small, sometimes the kids accidentally lose the sticker as they were peeling it off the page.
These are just problems that my family has experienced, and they are more of a user error rather than a product flaw.
Overall, I love this book and love the concept. I think it’s great that the authors invite the kids to be creative and say a prayer during that creativity. I love that they can tear out their images when they finish and either gift it to someone or hang it up somewhere.

Pray By Sticker: Mass will make a wonderful gift for Christmas, especially for kids preparing for their first Communion!
