Lectio Divina Out Loud: Erika Dix rides the carousel of change in her life.
I wait for the LORD, my soul waits and I hope for his word. (Psalm 130:5)
Why do things need to change? I just start to feel comfortable in a situation and then something changes. Promotions, graduations, retirements, new homes and neighbors, marriages, deaths — all revolving around us like a carousel. I am currently in a season of change, or at least a hope for change, and I am turning to Scripture for guidance.
I Am Waiting
I am waiting to hear about job positions, one child’s college housing, and my other child’s car situation. I am waiting to see whether my parents’ health to decline, and how I will take care of them. I am waiting for my children to grow up and move out on their own.
My God will fully supply whatever you need, in accord with his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)

My Soul Waits
I am waiting to see what the Holy Spirit wants to say in my life. I am waiting for “God moments,” and seeing how He takes care of me. I am waiting for the Lord, and seeking His Advent.
We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)
Hope in His Word
I am hopeful for change, knowing that even in the situations I do not want to change, God is with me. I have hope in His Word, in all of Scripture, that God is looking out for me — and the best time to find Him is in the period of waiting. It is when I am forced to slow down and actually see what is happening around me. If the waiting takes too long and I start to lose hope, that is when I can find that hope again in Scripture.
Scripture is comforting, and a great place to rest when we are spinning on the carousel. It is as simple as it says here:
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. (John 3:16)

Prayer:
God, I am grateful for the waiting in my life. It brings me closer to You and helps me grow stronger in my faith.
