Amanda Lawrence shares tips for staying committed to praying a daily Rosary amidst a hectic life.

The Rosary the weapon of choice for everyone seeking to defeat evil, find peace, enhance personal virtue, and establish a true devotion to God through Jesus and Mary. One benefit I adore is how the repetition lulls me into contemplative prayer. Here are four other advantages I enjoy!

  1. Praying the Mysteries helps me meditate on the significant events of Jesus’ life.
  2. It only takes twenty minutes to ensure I’m giving God His daily due.
  3. The Rosary fulfills Scripture! The Canticle of Mary states: “From now on will all ages call me blessed” (Luke 1:48).
  4. Reciting the Rosary has answered many of my prayers. It could answer yours, too!

What’s my secret to praying daily? I set aside time and commit to it! Praying the Rosary isn’t a box to check off some to-do list. It’s quiet time alone with God. Please schedule an appointment and stick with it.

Morning is my favorite time for prayer: it’s calm, with limited distractions rattling around in my brain. Plus, reflecting on the life of Jesus makes it easier to offer the rest of my day to Him. Many churches pray the Rosary before or after daily Mass. Check with yours!

After dinner might work better for you. Or during a commute. There’s no rule against praying the Rosary in your car. Or while you’re taking a stroll. Or when waiting for the laundry. We can recite Rosary prayers alone or together with family. Sometimes I pray along with fellow CatholicMom contributor Heather Johnson on her YouTube channel, A Catholic Mom's Life.

A positive podcast or app might also make prioritizing prayer easier for you. I hear good things about Hallow, though I haven’t used it. If you want extra help, check out this rosary video from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The bottom line is that the Rosary is thoughtful, Scripture-based worship time with God, so prioritize praying its Mysteries often. You'll probably quit pretty quickly if you treat it like just another task to “get done.”

As a solo parent, I realize it's challenging to find twenty minutes to pray. It’s okay to start small and recognize that God understands when you are doing your best! Begin with one decade and work your way up to five. Once the Rosary becomes routine, you’ll wonder how you got along without it! Pray it daily, practice patience, remain open to grace, and watch your spiritual temperament grow.

And if you’re so inclined, please recite a decade for me. Chances are we could both use the grace!
