Kate Taliaferro shares a Bible verse that has provided her with wisdom and comfort in many situations.

Have you ever felt like a Bible verse is following you around? It’s speaking to you on multiple levels. It is somehow perfect for almost any situation. It keeps coming up in conversation or as a lightbulb moment in your mind. That’s how I’ve felt this fall with Lamentations 3:22-26. It goes like this:

The Lord’s acts of mercy are not exhausted,
his compassion is not spent;
They are renewed each morning—
great is your faithfulness!
The Lord is my portion, I tell myself,
therefore I will hope in him.
The Lord is good to those who trust in him,
to the one that seeks him;
It is good to hope in silence
for the Lord’s deliverance. (Lamentations 3:22-26)

I first encountered it during Bible study at church. One of the overarching themes of the study is God’s faithfulness to the promises He makes. God never once left His people, no matter how many times they left Him. He never forgot them, even when they were slaves in Egypt or in exile. He never abandoned them, even as they raised their hands and voices in worship of false idols.

This message alone would have been both comforting and convicting enough. God is faithful in all things. I do not need to worry or wonder about the circumstances I am facing, God is big enough. After we finished that week at Bible study, I did not expect to have it continue to impact my life. What a silly notion, in retrospect.

I wanted to write a note to a woman at church who is struggling with these final months of the year as it is the first anniversary of her husband’s death. Lamentations seemed the words the Holy Spirit wanted me to share with her.

We received some difficult news regarding our next military assignment and now are not sure what is in store for us next. Lamentations has been my comfort during this time of uncertainty.

In parenting, it has been challenging to let each day be new and to not carry problems from the previous day into the present one. Lamentations has been my guide.

We went on vacation with both sets of grandparents, which was wonderful, but involved a lot of personalities in close quarters and lots of long driving with 6 kids under age 11. Lamentations was grounding, providing me with inspiration for how I ought to act and the attitude I ought to strive to bring to any situation. It also reminded me that God’s mercy never runs out, praise the Lord!

Just like God’s endless mercies, the wisdom of Scripture never ceases. There is always more God is waiting to reveal to us. #catholicmom

God continues to amaze me. Before this Bible study, I could not tell you the last time I even thought about the book of Lamentations, much less read anything intentionally from it. Yet its words have been exactly what I have needed for so many moments these past few months. And I’m sure there is still more in store for me as I journey with them.

Scripture is the living Word of God. Just like God’s endless mercies, the wisdom of Scripture never ceases. There is always more God is waiting to reveal to us. I can only sit in wonder and awe at God’s amazing providence as He continues to care for me through His Word, written so long ago yet so alive and vibrant still today.
