Anne DeSantis discusses the importance of being mature in all aspects of our lives, including our spirituality.
Maturity is something we Catholic mothers must live out in various ways in daily life. There is not just one way to be “mature” in life. In exercising virtue, we strive to be mature in all aspects in our relationship with God and with others. We can be mature in practical ways, and also emotionally, mentally, and spiritually mature.
Practical maturity
In speaking of practical maturity, this refers to being a person of common sense and of good judgement. Maturing in life as a mother is essential because it enables you to model resilience, responsibility, and emotional intelligence to your children. This shapes their development and future success.
Maturity empowers you to handle the challenges of parenthood with greater wisdom, patience, and balance, creating a nurturing and stable environment for your family. Practicality is key since without good common sense, life is bound to be much more challenging.
Emotional and mental maturity
Emotional and mental maturity is vital for mothers because it allows us to reflect Christ’s love and patience in our relationships with our families. Guiding our children in the faith with grace and compassion is vitally important.
By cultivating inner peace and emotional stability through prayer and the sacraments, we can better navigate the demands of family life. This fosters a steady and Christ-centered presence in the home.
Spiritual maturity
Spiritual maturity is crucial for Catholic mothers, as it deepens our relationship with Christ. This enables us to lead our families spiritually in faith with greater wisdom and grace. By growing spiritually, we can become stronger spiritual role models, guiding our children toward a life rooted in God’s love and truth.
Spiritual maturity is an area for constant growth throughout life. It is achieved through prayer, adherence to our faith, and seeking to grow closer to God throughout life.
Maturity is not just about getting older and growing mature in more obvious ways. It is about committing ourselves to growth in all areas of our lives through prayer and perseverance. Doing so helps us to pass on the torch of faith to our families in the greatest of ways.
