Elizabeth Estrada considers the craziness of the season leading up to the celebration of Christmas.

As you walked into any store in November you began to see all kinds of Christmas decorations. In some places of business, they even began playing Christmas music for all to hear. This is the first sign that “It Has Begun.”

The craziness of the season. The question is: the season of what? Is it the season for finding the perfect gift? Of saying yes to every party and event? These seem to be the questions that I have started asking myself for the last couple of years.

I sit with this question during prayer to remind me of what the season should be and truly what I want it to be, one of waiting and detaching from the things of the world. Even writing that now seems very much the opposite of what the world is telling precisely at this time of year. Black Friday began very early this year and has reappeared several times already. I wonder if it is because many people are soothing themselves with stuff, at least temporarily.

Don’t get me wrong; I once waited for the sales and the shopping, but the closer I became to the Lord the more I realized that it is not about that. It's about sacrifice and beginning a new liturgical year with God at its center.

Jesus always gives more than we deserve. #catholicmom

This year I’m thinking about the gift I want to give Jesus. I pray that it will be the gift of my time in prayer and making our relationship better. Jesus always gives more than we deserve.

What will you give Jesus this season?
