Today's Gospel: Luke 21:1- Let us put ourselves in the position of the poor widow from today's Gospel, as she is surrounded by people with lots of money making a bit of a show as they make their offerings. Imagine, in her comparing her simple offering to the grand gestures of those around her, her inadequacy at all she had to offer - two copper coins. "In comparing her simple offering" - how often are we guilty of that? Not in the monetary sense, but how often do we compare our gifts and talents to the gifts and talents of those around us, and feel ashamed? We often can feel inadequate with what we have to offer. Our self-criticism can lead us to believe that we don't have enough confidence, we're not brave enough or clever enough. We can feel like everyone we work with is better at their job than us, or what about that super-mum next door with the flawless appearance and immaculate house? We need to break this mind-set and realise that we are enough. God gave us the right gifts and talents to carry out the unique mission given to each of us. Jesus recognised the generosity of the poor widow in her humble offering - sometimes we may have little to offer, but God knows that in that moment we are giving our everything.

Ponder:

Our Lord recognises your value. Do you?

Pray:

Lord, help me to appreciate my own value and stop comparing myself to others. May I be thankful for the gifts and talents you have given me and use them generously.
