Today's Gospel: Luke 21:5-11 Well, that's not a terrifying gospel at all. In every decade of every century, there is speculation and wonder and worry about when the world is going to end. Is this person the anti-Christ? Is that comet a sign from heaven? What's an ordinary Christian to do? The same thing we are supposed to be doing every day of every week: loving the Lord our God with all that we have and are, and loving our neighbor as ourselves. That, plus going to confession and staying in a state of grace, because you know not the day nor the hour. Wars, signs, false prophets or the end of the world, we're called to a deep and abiding peace. If we stay in the Sacred Heart of Jesus, keeping close to Him and trusting in His love for us, we don't need to worry. It's easier said than done, I understand. But what goal could be more worth striving for than a life of peace and an eternity of joy?

Ponder:

How often do I let worry about politics, natural disasters, or ordinary daily worries pull me away from trusting in God? How can I turn to Him today instead of being afraid?

Pray:

My Jesus, my life has so many challenges, and I never know what's around the corner. And there are so many people hurting in the world. Grant me Your peace, so that I can help them as You want me to.
