Reflection by Abby Watts
Today's Gospel: Matthew 6:7-15
Every night before I tuck my sons in, we say our litany of prayers. The current run-down is “Now I lay me down to sleep…,” plus “God bless mommy, daddy,” etc. Then we say what we are thankful for and who we are praying for and we close with a prayer for protection to our Guardian Angels. At one point we included an Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be, but I noticed that my ambition for prayer time did NOT match my sons’ attention span. There was a lot of rolling around on the floor and grabbing stuffed animals. One trick I picked up from their kindergarten teacher was to ask them, “Are you giving Jesus your best?”
In my children’s lives and in my own prayer life, I never want prayer to be seen as something on a check list. But I have to ask myself if I hold my prayer time to the same standard as my kids’. If the answer is no, it’s time to do some tweaking.

Lord, show me what changes I can make to my time spent with You, so it can be more fruitful and lead me into a deeper love for You.Copyright 2020 Abby Watts Receive CatholicMom.com newsletters in your inbox, including the Daily Gospel Reflection each morning! * indicates required
