Today's Gospel: Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children - Mark 3:13-19
“Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted
and they came to him.” (Mark 3:13). Today we read that Jesus made public the twelve men He chose to be His closest confidants, students and fellow preachers and healers. He knew each of these men by this time and their personalities and abilities that would benefit His ministry and the beginnings of the church after He is gone.
God also knows each of us by name, He knows the number of hairs on our heads (Matt. 10:30), and He has also chosen us to be His follower, student, and evangelizer. He has a plan for each of us (Jer. 29:11), just as Jesus knew how each of the twelve men could uniquely add to His plan of spreading the gospel message.
God loves every child He creates. He carefully sculpts each individual person to be born within a particular family, country and time period for a purpose He preordains.
For this reason, today we pray for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children. Each aborted baby is a life specially crafted by our Loving God. Yet around the world in 2019 there were over 46 million babies aborted. In the United States alone, 22% of all pregnancies end in abortion, roughly 3,000 every single day (latest CDC numbers available in 2016 there were 623,471 abortions).
These numbers are atrocious and so sad. They have to break God’s heart. Please stop and say a prayer right now for the unborn and vulnerable to have a voice in our courts, in our Pregnancy Centers, in our homes. Pray for the women contemplating their future as mothers and are uncertain how they would manage so are considering ending their pregnancies. Pray in thanksgiving for your own mother who gave life to you as God intended. Consider using your God-given gifts to help the unborn – writing to your elected officials, volunteering at a Christian pregnancy support center, donating diapers and supplies or money.
Ponder:
In what way can I help the vulnerable unborn children in our country?
Pray:
Loving Father, You choose to create every human being on earth. Help us to love and appreciate each person as a gift from You, and to use our talents to love, serve and praise You every day. Amen.
