Today's Gospel: John 16:5-11

“But now I am going to the one who sent me, and not one of you asks me, ‘Where are you going.” But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts.”

Jesus is preparing his Apostles to receive the Holy Spirit. He is asking His apostles to trust in what He is revealing to them. Their hearts were filled with grief knowing that Jesus is leaving them.

It is so true in my life, when someone I love leaves me through death or moving far away, my heart is filled with much heartache and grief. I want to cling to the person. I never want to say goodbye.

But Jesus is asking me to let them go and place them in His Most Sacred Heart. Jesus is asking me to trust in Him. He is asking me to let go, so that a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit can come into my heart to comfort me in my grief. “But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you.”

It is sometimes a painful process of letting go, hanging on, trusting and finally surrendering. Sometimes a door has to close completely before Jesus opens another door. In time, I can see that it was all meant to be, so that I could grow closer to Jesus through the letting go process.

After the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the Apostles, they understood finally why Jesus had to ascend to His Father. May I keep my heart open to seek a deeper understanding and trust in Jesus.

Ponder:

What do I need to surrender to Jesus today?

Pray:

Jesus, help me to surrender everything to You this day. Help me to look beyond this present challenge and to begin to see Your light shining through this present difficulty. Holy Spirit, flood my soul with Your light and amazing grace.
