Today's Gospel: Matthew 5:1-12A - Solemnity of All Saints

“Jesus is giving a sermon on the nearby mount. Want to come along?” “Sure!” I responded. I grabbed my sandals and together we headed out. When Jesus spoke everyone wanted to attend.

Arriving at the mount I spotted a place on the grass where I could almost touch Jesus’ robe. I quieted my soul with my eyes fixed on Him alone. As He spoke, silence filled the place and the peace of His presence enveloped all. His words captivated all.

“Who wants to be blessed?” He beckoned. “I do, I do!” I cried out with childlike wonder while silently adding, “Choose me!”

Unlike a contest where there is only one winner, Jesus invites all. The words quickened to me, “I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life.” He was fulfilling Deuteronomy 30:19 by teaching His people how to choose life. I clung to every word, writing them on my heart. By living out Jesus’ words to be “merciful, meek, righteous, poor in spirit, and clean of heart” He promises we will be blessed!

Afterwards, all my friend and I could talk about was Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. As we chatted our hearts came alive. I said, “Thanks for including me. What an 'invitation' Jesus gave to be blessed!” We decided that day to accept His invitation.

Ponder:

Jesus is inviting you to quiet your soul before Him so you can hear Him say, “Who wants to be blessed?” Will you accept His invitation?

Pray:

Dear Jesus, may my heart always leap with childlike wonder when Your words are spoken. Help me to be merciful, meek, pure of heart, and poor in spirit like the saints were, so I may choose life and be blessed.
