Today's Gospel: Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time - Mark 13:24-32
In today's Gospel, Jesus gives us a warning: the end is coming. We do not know when - indeed even the angels and saints don't know - but it is coming. This world will pass away. Jesus reminds us of this reality because He wants us to be prepared. He wants us to be ready, because He loves us.
We're going to be hearing this more, especially as we approach Advent and we turn our hearts towards His coming. We want to ready our hearts. But this readying doesn't need to be motivated by fear, or a sense of impending or approaching doom; instead it should be motivated by faith, and love for our Bridegroom Who is coming.
Jesus reminds us that it is He who will send angels to gather His elect. That He will be near, waiting at the gate. So draw near to Him today. In the Eucharist, in Prayer, in Scripture, draw near to the One who waits for us, so that when the time comes, we will know Him and be ready.
Ponder:
What are you doing today to prepare your heart for His coming?
Pray:
Jesus, make me ready.
