Today's Gospel: Luke 18:35-43

I’ve sometimes wondered what caused the blind roadside beggar to lose his sight. He clearly begs to Jesus, “Lord, let me see again!”

At times I’m not so far myself from that blind man. I know that Jesus, Son of David, is always near, but cannot see him. And like the blind man who knows what is happening around him, cry out all the more to be released from my darkness.
If you’re reading these reflections then you also want to see. What I like about this scene is Jesus waits. He doesn’t run back to the beggar and pick him up, but He also doesn’t walk away; He waits.

Jesus waited for the blind man to come to Him. To see, we have to move.

Ponder:

Imagine what your movements would be like if you were blind, how your hands and arms sway in front of your body, how your steps falter unsure of level ground. Now, translate that sensation of unsteadiness to being spiritually blind. Can you call out with all your heart, Lord, let me see again?

Pray:

Heavenly Father, I know You are near, always within earshot of my cry for mercy. Let Your Holy Spirit help me rise from my stagnation, to find my feet, and move closer to life in You, and You in me. Amen
