Today's Gospel: John 2:1-11

During a particularly difficult season of life, I was struggling to remain hopeful. I felt like I had nothing more to give, nowhere else to turn. I tried every protocol and eating plan in order to feel physically better, but my symptoms remained.

I had no wine.

I was depleted, dry, and empty, which caused me to feel helpless, even hopeless. As I continued to beg God for relief and healing, I reached a point where it seemed like Jesus was saying to me,

“Woman, how does your concern affect me?” John 2:4

Intellectually, I knew the Lord heard every prayer and remained close to me in my suffering. I believed that He could heal me in an instant. But emotionally, I wondered, “What about me, Lord?”

As I was sharing my discouragement with my husband, unbeknownst to me, my young son was listening to our conversation. And at one point, he gently but confidently interjected, “Mom, have you asked Mary about it?”

The sweet purity of his question left me stunned. How did this young soul become so wise?

That day, my son reminded me of the importance of Mary’s role in my life. And today’s Gospel demonstrates her powerful intercession, not only for those who lived in the time of Christ, but for us, too.

Mary listens to every Hail Mary and Memorare. She holds the hand of each person who prays the Rosary, and she breathes in the aroma of the lovely flowers placed before her statue in churches around the world. Mostly, Mary points us to her Son and shows us how to “do whatever he tells you.” (John 2:5)

Yes, having Mary in our corner, interceding for us and leading us to Jesus, renews our hope and our strength. So that even when life is challenging, we are able to “run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint. (Isaiah 40:31)

Ponder:

What need can you bring to Mary today?

Pray:

O Mary, I come to you today and ask for your prayers. Show me how to do whatever Jesus tells me to do.
