Today's Gospel: Mark 1:21-28
Teaching . . .

Learning . . .
In today’s Gospel reading, most find ourselves drawn to the exorcism performed by Jesus of Nazareth. We are reminded of the holy name of God, recalling to mind that every knee shall bend at the name of Jesus (Philippians 2:10).
Yet, there is more to the Gospel than this demonstration of the power of Christ.
Today, mothers seek encouragement in a world that can be so dark and heavy at times. As we try to raise the next generation, not just of passionate Catholics, but also productive members of society, we are invited to pause, take a moment, and reflect.
We are called to teach with authority in the same manner as our Savior. Perhaps we aren’t teaching all the ins and outs of the faith. Yet, we are called to teach the practical, hands-on, lived faith. Our role as women is to provide our next generation with a guide of what our faith looks like, from attending Mass on Sundays, to also sharing Christ’s love and emulating the Blessed Mother’s humility.
The Gospel reminds us to listen. All around us, God is calling to us, and inviting us into a relationship with Him. Part of our role as women is responding to God’s call, recognizing Him in our daily lives, and inviting Him to accompany us.
Finally, we are challenged to learn. Like those with whom Jesus interacted in the Synagogue, so, too are we to be amazed at what the Lord will place on our hearts in the uncertain times in which we live. We are to follow His teaching, while He points us to salvation.
As this year begins, we must each take a step back, take a deep breath, and ponder how we will spend the year.

Ponder:
How will you teach with authority, listen to God's gentle whispers, and learn from His love during 2024?
Pray:
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your beloved Son for our salvation. Help us to lean into Christ's examples of teaching, listening, and learning, as we follow Him to Your side.
