Today's Gospel: Mark 2:13-17
I’m not perfect. I know I’m a sinner, and I struggle to change and do better. Most days I’m okay about it. I keep plugging away, working to live a good and holy life. But sometimes, the day is gloomy and gray, and I find myself questioning, worrying, and feeling a bit low. Am I doing all I can? Am I truly worthy of the love, caring, and attention of my friends . . . my family . . . of God?
Jesus doesn’t expect me, or you, to have it all together or to be perfect. He expects us to listen and follow Him. Easy to say, but sometimes hard to accept and believe. So, let’s say it again. He loves each of us, and He calls us to be with Him. He calls us to repent and believe.
The last line in this gospel is my absolute favorite warm hug.
“I did not call the righteous, but sinners.”
He sees me as imperfect as I am. He calls me even when I feel unworthy.
What I want--and what I need--is to spend time focused on Jesus and His great love for me. Meditation on Him is like wrapping myself in a warm blanket on a gray, gloomy day.
Jesus wants to be with us. He wants us to get up and follow Him. He wants to teach us about His father’s love and mercy. He wants us to repent from our sins and believe.
He Wants US!
Reading that He is calling me to follow Him is a snuggle on the couch with a blanket for my heart. It brightens even my gloomiest days.
Ponder:
What message from God brightens your day when you're feeling low?
Pray:
Lord, you see me for who I am, imperfect but trying. Be with me as I continue to strive to listen, repent, and believe.
