Reflect on seeking clear signs from God, understanding Jesus's resurrection, and sharing this powerful message to inspire faith in others.

Today's Gospel: Luke 11:29-32

How often have we longed for a physical, obvious sign from God when faced with making a difficult decision? Even when we are deciding what to get involved in at our church, which is a holy and admirable dilemma, it can be challenging and would be wonderful if God would just spell out the answer clearly for us.

This is what the people surrounding Jesus that day were asking for, a clear sign or answer to who Jesus was so they would know whether to follow Him or not. Jesus had been a traveling preacher for a couple of years by now, so they should’ve gotten a good feel for His power and wisdom, but they still had their doubts. Jesus tried to give them clear signs, but they were clues that we understand better today, in retrospect.

His ultimate purpose as the Son of Man was to save everyone from their sins by dying, then rising from the dead three days later, much like Jonah after being inside the whale for three days. Jonah’s “resurrection” story was so powerful that almost everyone in Nineveh believed him and repented.

Jesus knew at this point in His ministry that all the words He spoke or miracles He performed wouldn’t be enough to convince everyone. His future resurrection story would end up being the ultimate sacrificial sign that would convert millions of people. It is also the most important message we can share with nonbelievers or fallen-away Catholics who need their faith boosted.

Ponder:

Who will you share Jesus’s resurrection story with today to help them desire a closer relationship with our God?

Pray:

My dear Jesus, thank You for giving us a clear sign by Your resurrection that You truly are the Son of God. Give us the boldness and zeal to share this sign with those who need to hear it in order to be saved.

Pray Together:

Encourage your child to tell the story of Jonah and how that relates to Jesus’s resurrection to someone in your family who does not attend church.
