Daily Gospel Reflection for February 26, 2026

I have a picture of Jesus knocking on a door hanging up in my living room. My three-year-old loves to point at it and tell me he sees Jesus. I fell in love with that image when I found it at a thrift store because it reminds me that Jesus is always there waiting for us. He is always knocking at that door asking us to open our hearts to Him. In today’s Gospel, we can take a different approach and put ourselves behind that closed door. It reminds us that if we look for God, He is always there. He can come in the form of answered prayers, kind acts of other people, whether they are friends, family, or strangers, or beauty present in nature. God is present all around us, and we don’t have to look hard to find Him. All we need to do is just open the door and look.

 

Knowing this, we can apply it towards the last part of the Gospel for today: The Golden Rule. This is a rule that we all probably know by heart by now. It is one that my parents would always tell my siblings and me when we got into arguments. However, we can take it a step further by understanding that God is present in each person we meet, which means that we should treat each person we meet with love and kindness so that they can see God’s presence in us through our actions.
