Today's Gospel: John 14:27-31a
The first sentence of this Gospel we hear at Mass every weekend. The second sentence is letting us know that we will not find this type of peace on earth, but rather in God and that we should place our trust in Him. It is a reminder that we are not of this world.
Like any loving parent, Jesus prepared the apostles for a challenge that they would soon face. As moms, we do our best to raise our children and teach them everything they need to know so that when the time comes for them to go out on their own in the world, they will not only survive but thrive.
Jesus did the same by teaching His disciples and letting them know that there would come a day when He would leave them to join His Father in Heaven. It might seem scary when He leaves, but all will be okay.
Just as we are always going to be there for our children when they need us, no matter how old they get, God is always there for us when we need Him.
Ponder:
What challenge are you facing in your life right now, and how can you turn to God to find peace through it?
Pray:
Thank you, God, for always being available to me and helping me through whatever challenges I face in life. Help me to offer peace to others as You have offered peace to me.
