Today's Gospel: John 21:1-14
Jesus is a great host.
When the disciples climb off their boat and onto the shore, they find that Jesus has made a charcoal fire with fish on it and bread. Jesus had prepared a place for them. Can you imagine walking up to breakfast lovingly prepared for you by our Lord?
Like a good host, Jesus invites the disciples to bring something to the meal. They bring the fish He enabled them to catch. Isn’t this the truth?—we bring good things to each other only through God’s graciousness.
Finally, Jesus invites them, “Come, have breakfast.” He invites the disciples to be nourished, body and soul. Jesus was a great host while He walked this earth; it was a foreshadowing of what He’s doing for us in heaven. Jesus is preparing a place for each of us. He asks us to offer all that we can now, made possible through His grace. And, finally, at the end of our earthly days, we pray He will invite us to come dine with Him at the heavenly banquet.
Ponder:
Take a moment to imagine Jesus preparing a meal for you. How do you feel when you walk into that scene?
Pray:
Jesus, help us practice hospitality in a way that invites others into a deeper relationship with You. We love You.
