Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: John 3:16-21

Today’s passage begins with one of the most well-known verses in all of Scripture.

“God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.”

What awe-inspiring words that describe an undeserved gift.

The verses that follow may not be as familiar, but the passages about goodness and light versus evil and darkness are worth reflecting on.

Even as small children, we recognize the concept, and probably all have a story to highlight this truth. As a child, when you did something wrong, what did you do? Did you eagerly tell your parents what happened like you did when you shared news that would make them proud? Or did you try to hide the poor report card, the broken toy, or the stolen item? Did you ever hide under your covers with a flashlight to read past your bedtime? Perhaps you were like me and tried to hide your uneaten peas under the remains of your dinner. Maybe you took extra care to place the candy wrapper at the bottom of the trashcan?

Humans naturally want to hide the bad.

Is there anything you are hiding now? What pulls you toward the dark? Sadly, most of us have something that tends to lead us away from Christ’s light. Could it be television shows or movies with impure scenes? Books or music that detract from prayer life? Internet activity or extra work that limit family time? God loves us so much that He wants us to join Him in eternity. Let’s live our lives in appreciation of that gift.

Ponder:

Is there something in your life that is kept in the shadows? Make a conscious effort today to leave it there and find a way to step into the light.

Pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible gift of Your Son, Who died for our salvation. Please give me the wisdom and fortitude to live my life reflecting Jesus’ shining light.
