Today's Gospel: John 12:1-11

Mary of Bethany is one of my favorite saints and person in the Bible. I have always admired her love for Our Lord. She always seems to want to let Him know how much He means to her.

Today Mary takes a liter of costly perfumed oil made from genuine aromatic nard, anoints the feet of Jesus, and dries them with her hair.

To Mary, Our Lord needed his feet dried not with a cloth but with her hair. I imagine that maybe she decided to do this not only because of her love but also because part of Our Lord would remain with her. Perhaps after His death, this would be her only consolation.

To stroke her hair and remember His presence during the meal they shared together and recall how Our Lord brought Lazarus back from death.

The only longing I can compare to Mary’s is the longing of wanting to receive Our Lord in the Eucharist. To have the blessing and grace to receive Him in spite of my unworthiness. As we remember how much the Lord loves us and sacrificed for us this week, let’s try to long for Him like Mary did.

If you can go to daily Mass this week and receive Him in the Eucharist, do so and ponder His love for you. Thank Him for the graces, the breath He gives you every morning.

Go to Adoration and sit with Him and perhaps ponder how you can show Him your love for Him. He doesn’t need it, but He wants it, He longs for it.

I am going to try my best to spend as much time this week at His feet and not let the Iscariots in my life deviate me from the time I long to be with Him and want to spend with Him.

Ponder:

How can I spend more time with the Lord this week, considering my state in life?

Pray:

Lord, give us the grace to long for You and spend more time with You this week to try to imitate Mary of Bethany's love for You.
