Today's Gospel: John 20:1-9
Can you see Jesus?
Is there a cross in your life blocking your view of Jesus? That thought came to mind during Mass one Sunday. Let me explain. I usually close my eyes during Mass, not because I am reverent, but because I am easily distracted by the view of cute clothes, adorable babies, or a child entertaining those in the pews.
This particular Sunday, I was gazing at Jesus on the cross. As I focused on my Savior and the price He paid for me, I could not help but notice that the cross was right in front of a beautiful stained glass window of Jesus. Before closing my eyes again, I questioned why they would put the cross so high that I could not see my Jesus. I did not expect an answer, but Jesus gave a ready reply. Immediately after communion, I once again quieted my soul and gazed at the cross. To my surprise, this time, I could see Jesus. What had changed? My husband had switched places with me to where there was a perfect view. As I gazed at Jesus, I heard these words in my soul: “Is the cross in your life blocking your view of Jesus?”
Do you ever get so bogged down with the trials in your life that, like the disciples, you wonder where did Jesus go? You question, “They’ve taken my Jesus away, and I don’t know where they have put Him.” He has been there all along. Sometimes you need to go where you can see Him better.
It is on Easter Sunday, as we sing out with joy He is risen “Alleluia,” that our hearts are affirmed. We can see clearly that after the cross comes the resurrection.
Ponder:
Is there a cross in your life blocking your view of Jesus?
Pray:
Dear Jesus, please help me to remember that You are with me always. When a cross blocks my view, let me move to where I can see You.
