Today's Gospel: John 12:44-50
Have you ever felt like you were not being heard? Do you have a child or spouse who just does not listen to you at times? Jesus experienced that too, many times! Here, Our Lord is crying out, literally crying out as the opening of this Gospel says, to those around Him. He was not messing around, nor mincing His words, was He?
“So what I say, I say as the Father told me.”
As busy moms and dads, there is little time for reading, much less listening to the Word. I know we try to make time for it, but sickness, early schedules, trips, and school homework, can get in the way. How do we navigate without the Word in our lives? Knowing the Word is knowing Jesus; and knowing Jesus is knowing our Eternal Father. At times, when I am far away from the Word, I can get a depressed and dark feeling. A friend of mine used to tell me that when I complained about being depressed. “You haven’t been in the Word lately!” she would say, and she was right! When my prayer life is good and I am reading the Bible and reflecting on the Word, I am feeling better, hopeful in this crazy, mixed-up world. Just as Jesus said,
" . . . everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness.”
This is so true!
Jesus was sent to us to give us hope, forgiveness, and love. When it all comes to an end for each of us, we will be judged on our acceptance or rejection of the Father’s commandments, which Jesus spoke. What we did with Jesus’ words, our eternal Father’s words, will be the telling of our souls. Let us all stay in the light of Jesus and the Word of God!
Ponder:
How do you navigate through your life, staying close to the Word of God? Do you feel the darkness when you are far from the Word?
Pray:
Dear Father, thank You for giving us Your Son, Jesus, to teach us and reveal You to us! Help us to stay in Your Word throughout our days and nights.
