Discover the profound impact of the Eucharist in daily life and how it deepens faith in this heartfelt reflection by Betty Vertin. Explore preparation for Holy Communion.

Today's Gospel: John 6:52-59

I converted to Catholicism when I married my husband nearly twenty-five years ago. Young and eager to share his faith, I did not question the differences between my Protestant background and Catholicism. Over time, two aspects regarding the Eucharist have consistently moved me and helped me grow in faith and love for it.

First, we can receive Jesus through Holy Communion daily. Many attend daily Mass, seeking Him in the Eucharist. Working adults, students, parents, children, and retirees all fill the pews at my local parish for noon Mass.

We believe the bread and wine are truly the body and blood of Jesus—not just symbols. Consuming His body and blood, freely given to believers, brings us life.

Ponder:

Do I receive Jesus through the Eucharist as often as possible? Is there anything I can do to better prepare my heart before I receive Holy Communion again?

Pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your only Son and for the life we receive through Him.

Pray Together:

Find out when your parish has Eucharistic Adoration and spend time together in front of the Eucharist.
