Today's Gospel: John 14:7-14

“Do you not believe?” Ah. This is the question Jesus asks me each time I become anxious or worried or despondent. When I am overwhelmed or exasperated or grieving, the Lord is still in control; He is not worried or overwhelmed. He knows just what to do because He knows just where this is leading and perceives and responds to every movement within my small, aching heart.

"Do you not believe," He seems to whisper, "that My love for you is beyond your understanding, and that I can do even greater things than I have already done in your life?

"Have I been with you for so long a time, and you still do not know Me?”

"Do you not believe that whatever you ask of the Father in my name, I will do? This is what I came to do, 'so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.'” I came that you might have abundant life, and inexpressible joy, and the peace that only I can give. Only ask, seek, and knock, with loving trust and confidence, and all this will be given to you."

"Do you not believe that I am all, that I can do amazing things in your life, no matter how difficult things appear? All things work together for good, if only you will surrender your own agenda and daydreams and receive what I long to give you; because I long to give you infinitely more than you would dare to ask for."

“Do you not believe,” He says gently, "that I love you more than you can comprehend? Receive My love."

Do I really believe that, whatever is going to happen today, God is already there and has a plan to give me every grace I need to draw closer to Him through it?

Mother Mary, your yes at the Annunciation reached all the way to the cross and beyond, and you believed and received whatever God willed or allowed. Help me to remain open to His will and to trust in the workings of Love in every moment.
