Reflection by Connie Beckman

Today's Gospel: John 10:1-10

The Good Shepherd calls His own sheep and leads them out. Jesus walks ahead of me and invites me to follow Him every day. How do I recognize Jesus’ voice? I can begin to know Jesus through His Holy Word. When I receive Jesus in the Eucharist, He is as close as my breathing. I usually say: "Speak Lord your servant is listening.” Then in the silence of those few moments with Jesus, His peace fills my heart.

When my world gets chaotic, I run to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, where I can finally surrender it all to Him. If I am to recognize His voice, I must turn off all the noises around me so that I can hear His voice calling me to come to the quiet.

When I am not able to go to the Blessed Sacrament, I take a walk with my dog. I usually pray the Rosary meditating on each mystery. As I walk and pray, I become peaceful.

I like sitting on my deck watching the birds bathing in the bird bath and eating from the bird feeder. I get so refreshed watching the trees blowing in the cool breeze. As I ponder God’s marvelous creation, I can hear: “Be Still and Know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10.

When I get anxious and worried, I take a few moments and begin to breath in Jesus’ peace and breath out my anxious thoughts. As I do, I become less anxious and more able to deal with the challenges at hand.

On my bathroom mirror and on my computer, I have these words of Jesus as a reminder that He is at this moment calling me: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Ponder:

Spend some quiet time today listening to the Good Shepherd’s voice.

Pray:

How I desire life more abundantly with You, my Lord and my God! I desire to know You more and more. Lead me to the quiet places where I can recognize Your voice.
