Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: John 17:20-26

Jesus prayed for us while He was on this earth! He actually prayed for us!

What did He ask from the Father for us? Not health, wealth, or even wisdom. He asked that we would be one, just as He and the Father are one.

It’s hard to imagine that the Father would not answer Jesus’ prayer, but looking around at the world today, we see a lot of division.

Jesus wasn’t praying for the world, though; He was praying for us. He asked that we may be one with Him so that the world may believe in Him.

He is depending on us to show forth his glory.

Oneness begins at home. It begins with your spouse, with whom you unite in spirit, mind, and body. This union can bring forth the glorious gift of children. The family, united under God’s blessing, works together to know, love, and serve God and others.

The family worships and prays together within the larger Church family at their local parish. We join with Jesus, literally, in Holy Communion to receive the graces needed to go into the world. Jesus puts it this way:

“That the love with which you have loved me may be in them and I in them.” John 17:26

In the Eucharist, we experience the love of Jesus and become one with Him.

Then we, as living tabernacles, go out into the world to spread God’s love and glory. Let us help the Father answer Jesus’ prayer.

Ponder:

How can I promote unity in my family, parish, and/or community?

Pray:

Almighty Three-in-One, O Most Holy Trinity, let us be one in You as Jesus has asked. May this oneness be present in me, my family, and my parish, spreading to my community and throughout the world.
