Today's Gospel: Matthew 6:24-34
It is so easy to get caught up in the hustle of every day life. As moms, we are constantly taking care of everyone’s needs. What are we going to have for dinner? Are the clothes clean for tomorrow? What appointments are on the schedule? We need to pay the bills, call the doctor, pick up medicine, order groceries, and the list goes on and on.
Jesus is not saying that we shouldn’t plan out dinner, budget our money, or make sure the laundry is clean; we still need to take care of everyone in our family. Rather, He is making the point that we should not turn our busy schedules and anxious thoughts into idols.
It is normal to worry about some things, but when we constantly worry about everything in our life that could go wrong, then we are failing to put our trust and faith in God. If our busy schedules or anxieties take our time or focus off of God, then it is not coming from a good place and may in fact lead us further away from God.
Another thing to note is that if you do struggle with mental health, God understands. It is not another thing to worry about. Rather, it is something else you can bring to God and ask for help. It is another thing to take action on, too. Just like we wouldn’t stop providing food or clothes for our family, then we shouldn’t deny ourselves professional help for our mental health if that is a need. It does not show lack of faith in God, but rather a trust that He will make help available to us in the form of the doctor or therapist.
Ponder:
What are you worrying about right now, and how can you offer up that anxiety to God?
Pray:
God, you see the worries that I carry around with me everyday. Help me to release my anxiety and place full trust in You and in Your plan for me.
