Today's Gospel: Luke 2:41-51

Have you ever experienced a circumstance that made your stomach drop, your mouth go dry, and your pulse quicken? No doubt, those are some of the physiological effects that happened to the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph, whom we encounter in today’s Gospel reading. For three very long days in the eyes of parents, Jesus Christ was lost to His mohter and father.

Yet, all of us experience moments in which Christ seems lost. On a good day, when everything is falling into place, our rational brains can remind us quickly and easily that Christ is always with us. But, on those dark days, when the weight of the world seems to be falling down around us, we can easily lose sight of Christ and feel He is lost to us.

The Blessed Mother and St. Joseph didn’t find Christ among friends and family. They didn’t find Him in a restaurant or shopping stall. Rather, they found Him in the house of His Father . . . in the house of our Father.

Christ was at the Temple.

Christ is now, today, in the Church.

In their haste, with their worry undoubtedly creating sweating palms, shallow breathing, and swirling thoughts, the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph found their comfort in the Temple.

The Blessed Mother and St. Joseph found God in His home, and we, too, join with them at God’s home on earth, when we step through the doors of our local Catholic church.

Run to Christ in the Eucharist as certainly as the Blessed Mother ran to her Son so many centuries ago.

Allow Christ to embrace you, comfort you, and love on you as He undoubtedly did for His own parents.

Find God by returning to His altar of thanksgiving.

Christ is longing to see you coming through the doors.

Ponder:

What is stopping you from finding Christ in your life?

Pray:

Heavenly Father, thank You for providing us with perfect examples of what it looks like to not just seek, but to also find Your love. Grant us the grace to always find You in our churches and the courage to carry You in our hearts and into our homes.
