Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Matthew 10:26-33

From natural disasters to man-made conflicts, global crises to local news, the world around us can be downright scary. We are fed fear daily and throughout the years, have been conditioned to eye others with suspicion and fear.

Today’s Gospel is a needed salve in the face of all the worldly temptation to fear. Christ pointedly reminds us to,

“Fear no one . . . do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.”

Rather, we are warned to be afraid only of the one who can destroy both our soul and body.

Thankfully, the Church reminds us of ways to fortify ourselves against the onslaught of fear, and is ready to equip us to face the battles for our soul and body.

The sacraments of the Catholic Church are front-line defense, with each of us called to be strengthened and renewed in this battle on a weekly basis through Sunday Mass.

Devotions long-advocated by the holy men and women who came before us are another defense, particularly Eucharistic Adoration, the Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, the scapular, and so many others.

Prayer is a constant defense, asking the saints to intercede for us, and asking Christ to guide our thoughts, words, and deeds.

In today’s Gospel, we are also lovingly reminded that God will not leave us defenseless, because even as precious as as the sparrows are, so, too, are we precious in the eyes of our Creator.

God loves us and wants us to spend eternity with Him. While He doesn’t force Himself on us, He also doesn’t leave us alone to worry and be anxious about the frivolities of the day.

Rather, He equips and fortifies us to face the days ahead, confident as daughters of a most loving King.

Ponder:

When was the last time you asked God to help take your worries and fears off your shoulders and truly handed them to Him?

Pray:

Most gracious Father, thank You for giving me tools to strengthen my heart and mind. Help me to be guided by Your strength and courage to remember that I am loved, and You will take care of me when I turn to You.
