Today's Gospel: Matthew 9:18-26
Faith is knowing in your heart that God is all-powerful and merciful and can heal you of your affliction. It is trusting God and knowing that He will provide for you and always remain by your side while understanding that sometimes our prayers might be answered in a different way than we expect.
Today’s Gospel reading gives us two great examples of a man and a woman who had such great faith in God that miracles occurred because of it. They each knew that Jesus could heal them or a loved one, and each of them reached out to Jesus in their own way.
This Gospel also focuses on one particular sense: touch. If the woman just touched Jesus’ garments, she could be healed. If Jesus could just come to the man’s house and touch his daughter, she would come back to life. Touching another person makes the interaction more personal and invites them more intimately into their life.
Now, Jesus is no longer on Earth in human form walking around with us, but He is still physically present in the Holy Eucharist. We have the chance to be faithful like the woman and man in today’s Gospel and reach out to touch Jesus in the Eucharist to invite Him into our lives, so we can share Him with others when we go out into the world after Mass. To do this, we must have faith that Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist.
This Gospel also shows the role a parent can play for their children. The man’s daughter had died, but because of his faith and love for his daughter, she was saved! Our faith can affect our children’s lives. Let them see it daily.
Ponder:
What can you do in your life to ensure that you hear the words "your faith has saved you" (Matthew 9:22) when your time has come?
Pray:
Lord, I am reaching out my hand to You. Please grab hold of it and bring me closer to You.
