Today's Gospel: Matthew 11:25-27
On Tuesdays, I go to Adoration at my parish. When I go, I am greeted by a new friend and his sweet mother. My new friend happens to have Down’s syndrome and is just a couple of years younger than I am. He goes to Adoration with his mom every day it is offered at my parish, and I love getting to see him every Tuesday.
My new friend has the faith of a child, the faith that Jesus calls us to have. My friend trusts that his mom loves him and trusts her when she takes him to Adoration. He comes to the Lord without trying to control and stays in the chapel, ready to listen. He has faith like a child.
Having a childlike faith is hard for me because I want to control almost everything. If you ask my husband, it’s everything, not almost everything. I know that I should let God be in control, but can’t He just do things on my time, in my way, and how I want them?
I have a lot left to learn from Jesus about having childlike faith. I am so glad that He put examples like my new friend in my life to help guide me. I can learn to come into my relationship with God leaving my control at the door. I need to come in ready to listen and know that God is going to lead me to the right place, just like my new friend trusts his mom when she brings him to Adoration. God is the perfect Father; we just need to get out of our own way and trust Him to take care of us as His children.
Ponder:
How can I enter into my faith in a more childlike way today?
Pray:
Lord, thank You for friends who can help show us how to have faith like a child. Thank You for everyday examples of how to have a better relationship with You.
