Daily Gospel Reflection for July 28, 2026

Today's Gospel: Matthew 13:36-43

We all want to be the good seeds. I remember when we planted a quarter-acre garden in northern Idaho. Some seeds flourished into life-giving food for our family. Others rotted in the ground.

When our Marine son left the military, he and his family bought a beautiful place in southern Missouri. They dreamed of a bountiful garden, full of vegetables. However, their ground was so rocky, it was impossible to till the soil, so they improvised. Scott built planter boxes and filled them with enriched soil. They now enjoy all their favorite veggies. How often do we get stumped in our spiritual journey? We might have to improvise to get back on track.

If we apply this parable to our daily lives, are we planting seeds of joy, kindness, and faith? Or do we plant seeds of doubt, gossip, and negativity? Our salvation is the reason we're here on earth. We also have the responsibility to help others to the promised land. Will we plant our seeds in the enriched soil of Jesus's love, or let them dry up and die in the flames of sin?

We have free will, which means we have choices. We can choose to love, to have mercy, to forgive, to be kind, and to be happy. We have the choice to be a positive force. Once we become creative at planting seeds of joy, the whole world will open up to possibilities. What will our garden look like?

Ponder:

Do I try to plant seeds of kindness and mercy as often as I can?

Pray:

Lord, please help me to do my part in making the world a better place. Erase negativity from my being.

Make a new friend.
