Today's Gospel: Luke 12:32-48
This passage reminds us that God wants peace for us and that when we store up God’s treasures, we do not need to be afraid, for they are tools with which we can conquer anything. Reflecting on this passage is also a good way to prioritize our lifestyle and possessions.
I am a collector of everything butterflies. There was a time in my life when I would purchase almost anything if it had a butterfly on it. As word spread of my obsession, I began receiving gifts. I cannot even begin to count how many coffee mugs I received because they had a butterfly on them. Through the years, as my faith strengthened, so did my vision of what was around me and what I was putting my time and energy into.
Butterflies are a wonderful thing to be addicted to. However, how many do I actually need to store up? I imagine that when I reach Heaven, God will surround me with every butterfly He has created. Upon this realization, I began purging, and with each butterfly I let go of, I asked God to bless someone else. This removed the fear of surrender and replaced it with a loving gesture.
In releasing these possessions and opening up my life to more of God’s treasures, I responded to God's call to action. I stopped allowing the material things of this world to serve me and used them to help others. God will take that and allow it to fulfill His purpose.
Ponder:
Is there something I need to purge in my life to make room for God’s treasures?
Pray:
Loving God, fill my heart with Your heavenly treasures and guide me toward living in a way that allows me to serve You while serving others.
