Today's Gospel: Luke 4:16-30

Jesus came to “proclaim liberty to captives.”

He wants to set you free from the chains of living a life of productivity and finding your worth in what you do rather than who you are. You are a beloved child of God. In a culture that constantly pressures you to accomplish and achieve, He says you are enough simply because you are His. He waits for you in the tabernacle of every Catholic church, to fill your hungry soul with His affirmation, His grace, and His unconditional love. From the chains of sinful habits that keep you from living the abundant life He created you for. The gossip, the anger, the pride. There is no sin beyond His mercy. He offers forgiveness in the sacrament of Confession for every sin you’ve ever committed, no matter how dark or how hidden, and He holds out His Hand for you to step into the light and walk in the freedom of His grace.

He wants to set you free from the chains of fear, worry, and anxiety. We try so hard to control, and it weighs us down. We try to anticipate and avoid suffering and we cause a heavier burden than the suffering we fear. Our Lord carried the cross and conquered death. He is in control and He loves us. Any suffering that comes to us has been allowed only because He has permitted it. He will transform and redeem every cross, and He carries the bulk of its weight when we offer it to Him. Be not afraid.

You can be free. Let Him break your chains. Run into His anointed arms, wide open and waiting for you today. Believe in the glad tidings that He can and will lead you to a life of freedom.

Ponder:

Which of these “chains” is weighing you down most today?

Pray:

Lord Jesus, Anointed One, thank You for desiring me to live in joy and peace. Please set me free from all that holds me captive and lead me in the way of true freedom.
