Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Luke 7:11-17

There are multiple stories about Jesus raising the dead: Jairus’ daughter, Lazarus, and, today, a woman’s only son.

In ancient times, a widow would have needed her sons to help her, take her in, provide for her. But this widow had only one son, and he had died. God did not forget her need, and Jesus took pity on her, knowing how vulnerable she’d become with her son’s death. He comforts the widow, telling her not to weep, then commands her son,

“Young man, I tell you, arise!”

Who wouldn’t be amazed at the son sitting up, speaking to his family, and taking his mother home?

When we remember these resurrection stories from the Gospels, we need to apply the lessons to our own lives and our own “unanswered” prayers. When we feel like God hasn’t been listening, that His answer to our prayers for our children is just a “no,” we have to look to these stories.

This young man died.

Jairus’ daughter died while Jesus was on His way (and had stopped to talk to the woman with the hemorrhage).

And when friends came to tell him about Lazarus, Jesus waited and let Lazarus die.

Why?

It’s for the greater glory of God.

Ponder:

Do you feel like God hasn’t heard your prayers? Remember that His plan is in place, and this time of mourning will serve His greater glory. Don’t despair - He has not forgotten you.

Pray:

Lord, help me remember Your love. Remind me that Your timing is perfect, and You haven’t forgotten me, my family, or my petitions.
