Daily Gospel Reflection for September 25, 2026

Reflect on Jesus's presence in daily life and the quiet sacrifices of love within family, learning to serve and love as He did.

Today's Gospel: Luke 9:18-22

When Jesus asks, “But who do you say that I am?” I imagine Him asking not just the disciples, but me. When I'm sitting in the church pew, it's easy for me to answer with strong conviction, "Jesus, you are Lord!" Yet, when I’m in the midst of the hustle and bustle of daily life, I can sometimes lose focus on who He really is and how He is made present in the people I interact with. Whether I am spending time with my daughters, sitting at the dinner table with my wife, or even when I was taking care of my elderly father, I am not always aware of the presence of Jesus. 

Peter’s answer, “The Messiah of God,” sounds so sure, but Peter didn’t fully understand what kind of Messiah Jesus would be, a Savior who suffers out of love, not the expected military warrior. Peter was in the presence of Jesus, the Son of God, and couldn't always see Him for who He was. 

As a husband and father, I get a tiny glimpse of the kind of love that Jesus brings. It makes me aware of His presence in the quiet, daily sacrifices that no one sees, and in the moments of letting go when I’d rather hold tight. It’s there, in the ordinary crosses of family life, that Christ’s question echoes again: Who do you say that I am?  Each time I answer with love, through suffering, with joy, and in hope, I learn a little more of what love really means--not triumph, but trust. Not power, but presence. It’s a love that’s not focused on me, but rather on those I am called to serve. 

May our lives of service in our families all resonate with deep proclamation that Jesus Christ is Lord.  

Ponder:

How can you become more aware of the presence of Jesus in moments of quiet suffering that is born of love?  

Pray:

Lord Jesus, help me to recognize You in the daily crosses and quiet sacrifices of family life. Teach me to love as You love, with patience, humility, and joy.

Pray Together:

Share moments when love required something hard, like being patient when you were tired, forgiving after an argument, or helping someone when it wasn’t convenient. Talk about how those small sacrifices can be ways of following Jesus and showing His love in your home.
