Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Luke 11:1-4

Prayer is essential to our faith life; however, it can be elusive when we are stressed, overwhelmed, or simply out of practice. The Apostles wisely petitioned Jesus, "Lord, teach us to pray." He then provided them, and us, with a glorious, perfect model. I invited you to pray it slowly, deliberately, contemplating every word. This prayer, memorized by many of us as children, takes on new meaning when prayed with such intentionality.

As the Director of Digital Evangelization for Family Rosary USA, my favorite prayer devotion, as you may be able to guess, is the Rosary. I did not develop this affection naturally; it took years to fully appreciate its benefits and beauty. One aha moment that drew me into the Rosary was realizing it included the prayer Jesus gave us.

In The Lord's Prayer, we proclaim our faith in God as our Father, acknowledge the holiness of His name, hope for the Kingdom of God, and seek the grace to submit to God's perfect will. We also recognize our need for God's protection from temptation.

Jesus taught the Apostles to rely on God for their daily needs. This prayer would take on another level of meaning when He became our daily bread in the Eucharist. In this prayer, Jesus reminds us of His mercy and forgiveness and how we are to keep our hearts open and prepared to receive this mercy by being merciful to others.

The words shared with the Apostles thousands of years ago, which allow us to see into the intimate conversations between the Father and Son, are a precious gift. Therefore, these words should tumble from our lips and hearts daily! If you include the Rosary in your daily prayer, you will imitate the prayer of Jesus Himself at least six times.

Ponder:

Recite The Lord's Prayer slowly. Does focusing so closely on every word change the way you pray it?

Pray:

Lord, as the Apostles watched You pray, something stirred in their hearts to yearn to pray like You. Thank You, Lord, for answering their question and teaching each of us to pray like You!
