Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Luke 17:11-19

“And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice.” Luke 17:15

The one leper returned, or “turned back” to give glory and thanks to Jesus for the healing he had received. Jesus asks where the other nine lepers are and calls attention to the fact that only one has come back to thank Him. Because of the one leper’s faith and gratitude, Jesus tells him that he is saved.

We are reminded to continually return or “turn back” to Jesus and to thank Him for the many blessings and favors He grants to us each day. It is tempting to receive from the Lord and go on with our lives like the nine ungrateful lepers, forgetting where all of our good fortune comes from. It is essential to pause and be reminded of the Source of all goodness and favors that we receive. We should thank Him every moment for the blessings of faith, family, health, and so many good things that come from His hands.

St. Teresa of Ávila once said, “In all created things discern the providence and wisdom of God, and in all things give Him thanks.” We can recognize God’s hand in the simplicity and beauty of the flowers and trees, as well as in the most miraculous healings, and we should offer our gratitude for the great as well as the small miracles of life.

Ponder:

Do I remember to return and give thanks each time I receive a favor from the Lord?

Pray:

Jesus, please remind me to render gratitude and praise to You at every moment for the blessings in my life.
