Reflect on Jesus's strength and protection in times of difficulty, and learn to discern His teachings amidst life's challenges. Embrace His guidance and comfort.
Today's Gospel: Luke 11:15-26
This passages really encourages me and reminds me of Jesus’s strength and protection over those who love Him. Jesus shows His power here by casting out literal demons! This Gospel also reminds us of the existence of evil forces in the world, but when we rely on Jesus we truly have nothing to fear. Jesus says,
“But if it is by the finger of God that I drive out demons, then the Kingdom of God has come upon you. When a strong man fully armed guards his palace, his possessions are safe.” Luke 11:20-21
Jesus is our fully-armed guard, and we belong to Him. Under His protection, we are safe.
In the past, I know that I chalked up lots of discomforts in my life to spiritual warfare – my kids getting sick before an important retreat, or my car battery dying when we were headed to Christmas Mass. Don't get me wrong – the devil is prowling, and spiritual warfare is a very real thing. But, if I attribute everything to spiritual warfare, I am giving the devil way more credit than he deserves. I’ll admit it, I am being paranoid. So before blaming every little thing on demons, I take a deep breath, remember who is really in control, and try to learn and grow from whatever is being thrown my way.
Ponder:
How can I discern what God is trying to teach or tell me in times of difficulty, pain, or discomfort?
Pray:
Dear Jesus, please let us find comfort and care in Your protection, and turn to You in times of trouble.
Pray Together:
Pray a decade of the Rosary together as a family, especially if you face any challenges this week. Ask for the protection of Our Lord and Our Lady over your family.
