Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Luke 10:1-9

Today we see Jesus giving instructions for His seventy-two disciples, whom He sent in pairs to go before Him to prepare for His visit and spread the Gospel. First, He asks them to pray for vocations, for laborers for the harvest. Then
He explains that the work of the disciples may be dangerous, so they should be careful. He asks them to have faith in Divine Providence and not to worry about material things. He told them that they would have the power to cure the sick and that they would bring peace wherever they went.

When we were baptized, we were incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission (CCC 1213). As a married woman, I always relate this passage to marriage, because as a couple, we are also sent in pairs, to build a family and spread the Gospel wherever we are, preparing for the second coming of the Lord or for our meeting with Him when we die (whichever comes first).

This call to be disciples as a married couple is different from the call of a priest or a nun, but we still have to listen to Jesus' words in this passage. We need to pray for vocations, not only to priesthood and the consecrated life, but also to holy catholic families. We live in a dangerous world for families who profess the Catholic faith, so we need to protect ourselves by attending to the sacraments, especially Reconciliation and the Eucharistic.

As we work to provide for our family, we need to remember that our confidence must be in God and not in the false security money can bring. We also have the power to heal, bringing peace and spiritual healing to those around us.

Ponder:

How is my mission of a disciple of Christ going? How can I improve my apostolate and better share the love of Christ with others?

Pray:

Blessed Virgin Mary, you were the most perfect disciple of Jesus. Please help me fulfill my mission as a faithful and fruitful disciple, spreading the Gospel with my words, but mostly with my actions.
