Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.
Today's Gospel: Luke 17:7-10
Jesus teaches us today what our attitude as His servants should be. His words may seem hard:
“When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’”
But He is teaching us to be humble, that we shouldn't be proud of obeying His commandments, since this is our obligation as Christians.
Sometimes we can be tempted to complain, to try to show the Lord everything we have done for Him, waiting for some kind of reward or even envying others who are not so faithful and get more things than we do. This attitude shows our lack of faith in Divine Providence, because everything that happens to us, good or bad, is in the big plan of love of God our Father, Who wants us to be with Him in Heaven one day. If we believe in this, we should never complain and keep doing what is in our reach to show Him our love and gratitude.
This passage also reminds us of another one:
"The greatest among you must be your servant. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted" (Matthew 23:11-12).
We are all called to be servants of our brothers and sisters, to be humble, to do everything we can to make the lives of the others easier, helping them to know and love Jesus. At the end of the day, we should examine our conscience to see where we could have done better, where we could have served better, and ask God for forgiveness. This is the attitude of the faithful servant.
Ponder:
How can I serve God, in my neighbor, today?
Pray:
Dear Mother of God, you are the most perfect servant of our Lord. Please help me see how I can show my love to Him with my actions and have the strength to do what I should.
