Join us as we reflect, ponder, and pray together inspired by today's Gospel.

Today's Gospel: Luke 17:20-25

Jesus is explaining that the Kingdom of God is among them and that at some point others will say that Jesus is there and they will rush off in pursuit. But, it won’t really be Jesus they are following.

How often do we run off in pursuit of things that are not really of Jesus, but we convince ourselves that they are? How often do we seek things of this world, but declare it is because of our faith? How often do we pray to God as if He is a genie in a bottle?

This comes to play in so many parts of our society right now. People are on many sides of an argument, and though they have very differing opinions, both cite their faith as the reason for their opinion. But, if it is really due to faith-shouldn’t the opinion be the same? I see others that are disagreeing with the Catholic Church, but then using their Catholic faith as the reasoning for it. Too often we allow our own opinions to creep in and forget to prayerfully discern what is truly of God, versus what is our opinion, influenced by the world. That is why it is so important to spend time in prayer and ask God. God knows what is best.

I recently have been changing the way I pray. I have started really asking God to influence my heart and head in what He wants for me. I have prayed for peace and discernment instead of specifically what I want to happen. To say this has had a major effect on me is an understatement. Multiple times God has completely changed my heart on an opinion I had held. I have felt at peace at times when I usually would be a mess.

Ponder:

Are you praying for what you want or what is best by God’s standards? Do you look for discernment or gratification?

Pray:

Dear God, Please help me to always pray for Your will, for Your peace, and for discernment instead of my own desires. Your plan is always better than mine.
