Today's Gospel: Luke 21:29-33
The lesson of the fig tree is short but powerful. Jesus often uses the fig tree as a figure for Israel. Here He talks of the fig tree and the "other trees.” The blossoming hints at the coming summer. I believe Jesus is the blossom of these trees --Israel and the others. We are living that summer. We can see the Kingdom of God. It was near when He was here on earth; it has arrived now that He is in Heaven.
He said,
“This generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place.”
He would die too soon after He said this. All that He said did take place and long before the generation He was speaking to passed away. He gave them all the information they needed to know and seek the Kingdom. He ushered it in with His life, passion, and death. The Kingdom is here; we need to seek it for ourselves.
Let’s help our family hear the words that “will not pass away,” so that they too can enter His Kingdom. I’m sure I am not the only mom that wants to share the Kingdom of God with her children. Keep praying for them. Keep teaching them. Lead them to Him.
Ponder:
How can I share this "summer" with my family now in such a way that we will share the Kingdom in the future?
Pray:
Dear Lord, help me not pass away before my children learn about and seek Your Kingdom. I pray that I will be the one to lead them to You.
