Today's Gospel: Matthew 15:29-37
I can almost hear Jesus shouting, “Are you hungry?” Instantly, the people shout back, “Of course, we're famished! It's been three days, and we've had nothing to eat.” Who would think about food when they have seen miracles happen before their eyes? Jesus did! Being a good shepherd and moved with pity, Jesus wanted to feed their bodies and their souls.
Jesus did not fret when He discovered the meager seven loaves of bread and two fishes. He blessed and broke the bread, then instructed His disciples to give it out. Miraculously, they did not run out and had enough fragments to fill seven baskets. Isn’t seven the number of loaves they started with?
One day, I was seeking the Lord for my day. He said, “Buy seven loaves of bread and two fish.” Wanting to be obedient, I left immediately for Publix, known for its freshly baked bread. Once in the store, I wasted no time. After all, I was on a mission for God.
“What do I do with these groceries, Jesus?” I inquired. He put on my heart to bring the bread and fish to a friend named Charlotte. I did not call ahead. I wanted it to be a surprise. Charlotte put me immediately at ease, inviting me in. I said, “I am on a mission from God. Honestly, Charlotte, I do not know why, but God told me to buy these for you. Charlotte thanked me, saying, “I know just what to do! I am going to distribute them among my neighbors.”
Now, it was my turn to be surprised. Charlotte did not keep the gift for herself. Together that day, we lived out Matthew 15:29-37. I would like to know if Charlotte had any scraps left over.
Ponder:
Has God ever asked you to do something particular for someone else?
Pray:
Dear God, may I always be willing to go wherever You call me and do whatever You tell me to do. Give me a heart of obedience. Give me eyes to see the blessing or lesson in store for me.
