Today's Gospel: Luke 1:26-38
I love the Annunciation because it is such a significant moment in our salvation. The announcement that our Savior is finally here! Mary’s fiat that cemented our salvation and the humility she portrayed while declaring it are goals I have for my own life. To be able to say yes to God for everything is no easy feat.
This Gospel shows us that God also puts people in our lives when we need them. Archangel Gabriel is the messenger of God who let Mary know she was pregnant. He used Gabriel as a messenger for the Holy Family several times to keep them informed and safe from danger.
God also announces things to us, and it can come in many different forms. We might be fortunate enough to hear His voice telling us something. We might meet someone who presents us with an opportunity, and, if we choose to accept it, will lead us down the path He intended for us.
As moms, we experience our own announcement from God when we see a positive pregnancy test. In that moment, we realize that God has blessed us with life, no matter how long he/she lives.
And from that moment, our lives are changed forever. It is a wonderful moment for those who experience it and can also be a time of anxiety for the future, feelings I’m sure many moms, including Mary, have felt.
By saying yes, Mary allowed God to work through her and saved the lives of so many in the process. We might not always be happy with His plan for us, but one “yes, Lord” can have a big impact on so many lives.
Ponder:
What is God calling you to say yes to?
Pray:
God, give me the humility to see that Your plan for me is so much better than my own. Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
